BIOGRAPHY
Shermane Sealey, a lifelong Michigan resident, has extensive civil trial litigation experience, serving as first chair in bench and jury trials resulting in many favorable verdicts, judgments, decisions and awards. Ms. Sealey maintained a private law practice focused on Medical Malpractice Defense, Criminal Defense Litigation and General Civil Law cases as well as serving as a principal in a local business.
In 2003, Ms. Sealey was invited to join the management team at Legal Aid and Defender Association-Detroit-Civil Law Group. Prior to that, Ms. Sealey managed UAW-Legal Services Plan offices for Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Chrysler Corporation divisions, managing staff in Warren, Utica, Sterling Heights and Waterford. Ms. Sealey was also a special litigator for social security disability cases representing clients with hearings scheduled throughout the country.
Ms. Sealey has spent her career fighting for the rights of Michigan’s underrepresented citizens, opening the barriers to quality legal representation and fair, swift and successful resolution of their claims, concerns and issues. She brings a unique personal touch to her representation of clients, with an ability to bring the complexity of the legal process to concise and clear terms of explanation to empower their participation in their matters.
As part of her dedication to fair, quality and accessible representation, Ms. Sealey has elected to devote a significant portion of her practice to pursuing justice for the citizens of Flint, betrayed and poisoned by the very Municipality and Government that was entrusted with their welfare and protection. She is committed to a relentless pursuit of justice and a fully-transparent process such that the clients that she represents are able to recapture the fullest extent of the lives and livelihood that was so callously stripped from Flint’s most vulnerable families.
Ms. Sealey earned her undergraduate degree from Howard University, a Master of Arts Degree, Candidate in Linguistics, from Wayne State University and a Juris Doctorate Degree from Wayne State University School of Law. She maintains active membership with the State Bar of Michigan, the United States Federal District Court/Eastern District-Michigan, the United States Federal Court/Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tax Court. Ms. Sealey is a founding member of the Straker Bar Association.
She has also served as a member of the National Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, Wolverine Bar Association, Detroit Bar Association Review Panel, and Japan American Society of Greater Detroit and Windsor. Ms. Sealey has served on the Boards of several local non-profit ventures including United Way of Southeastern Michigan Allocations Panel, and is a well-known speaker on a number of topics for a variety of organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons . Ms. Sealey has also served as a speaker and panelist for several national conferences, including presentations to Wayne State University School of Law, and Harvard University.
